Door stuck open
Safely, right now
- Don't force it down or keep trying the remote. Leave the door as it is.
- Nobody walks, plays or parks under the door until it has been checked.
- The red release cord stays untouched while the door is open, because the door can fall.
Door won't close
Safely, right now
- Give the remote a rest: each new try strains the opener and can bend the door.
- Stay out from under the door. If you can see something in its path, like a bin or packed snow, say so when you call.
- Don't bypass or re-aim the safety sensors by the floor to make it close.
Spring snapped
Safely, right now
- Leave the door and the opener alone: no lifting it by hand, no pressing the button.
- Keep everyone, pets included, and every vehicle away from the door.
- The emergency release stays untouched while the door is up, because the door can come down.
Car stuck inside
Safely, right now
- Never try to push through the door with the car.
- Don't pull the release or lift the door if it feels heavy or you heard a bang. That usually means a broken spring.
- Plan on leaving the car where it is until the door has been checked.
A torsion spring letting go sounds like something fell in the garage, and then the door refuses to lift. If that happened in Mississauga today, we bring the matching spring, replace it as a pair when the door has two, check the cables and bearings beside it, and rebalance the door before we leave.

The fix, explained · Mississauga
What is the door doing?
EmergencyTorsion Spring ReplacementThe door drops the last stretch to the floor rather than settling, and when you stop it halfway by hand it slides down instead of staying put.
The fix
On a door with two springs, replacement usually starts with a conversation about scope. Both springs have completed the same number of cycles, so when one breaks the other is typically close behind, and replacing the pair together gives the door two matched springs sharing the load evenly.
Until then
When a spring breaks, the safe approach for the household is to leave the door where it is, keep people and vehicles clear, and avoid running the opener, which can damage the top section, the trolley or the gear drive.
Pull the manual release only when the door is fully closed unless a technician asks otherwise; a door disconnected while partly open can move on its own if the springs are out of balance.

EmergencyOff-Track Garage Door ResetThe rollers on the door have been squealing for months.
The fix
The finish of an off-track reset matters as much as the re-seating. Once the rollers are home and the track is true, the door is disconnected from the opener and moved by hand through its whole travel while every roller is watched in its rail.
Until then
Never run the opener on a door that is off its track or hanging crooked; every cycle drives the racked door harder into the rails and can pull the track from the wall or tear a hinge.

EmergencyGarage Door Cable ReplacementYour older door has springs along the tracks, and one cable has slipped off its pulley and dangles slack.
The fix
Cables are replaced as a pair, and there is a practical reason. Both went on the door together, have made the same number of trips and have sat in the same slush, so when one fails the other is close behind.

EmergencyExtension Spring ReplacementOne of the springs beside the track is hanging loose at the front end, its pulley dangling, and a length of cable lies slack along the top of the…
The fix
Choosing the right spring is a matter of weight, not colour. Extension springs are rated for the weight they are meant to lift, and the correct pair for your door is found by weighing the door itself with the opener released, then checking that figure against the wire size, coil diameter and length of the old springs.

Book soonEmergency Release RepairThe power went out in the middle of an ice storm, the car is inside, and when you reach up for the red handle there is nothing there.
The fix
Beyond the repair, this service leaves every adult in the house able to use the release confidently. You see the handle pulled straight down with the door shut, the door lifted by its handle or a gripping point away from the panel joints, and the trolley clicked back together by pulling the cord toward the opener or running one…
Until then
Pull the release with the door fully closed whenever possible, and keep the opening clear as you do.
Lift a door by its handles or the gripping points on the panel face, never at the joint between sections, which closes as the door bends around the track.
Book soonGarage Door Opener Diagnosis and RepairThe motor runs, the chain rattles along the rail, and the door does not move a millimetre.
The fix
Think of a command travelling through the system. Your thumb presses a button; the radio signal reaches the receiver; the logic board decides to move; the motor turns; a gear drives a chain, belt or screw; the trolley pulls the arm; the arm moves the door.
Until then
Pull the release with the door fully closed whenever possible, and keep the opening clear as you do.
Never drive a vehicle at a closed door to get out; the door collapses and the stored tension in the counterbalance is released.

What the census means at the door
38%
Homes of every age. About 38% of homes in Mississauga were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.
A mixed-age neighbourhood is where retrofits are most common: safety cables added to extension springs, a torsion conversion on an older door, insulated panels replacing a hollow door, or a quieter belt opener under a newly finished room above the garage. Each is a routine job for us.
37%
Single-detached houses make up about 37% of homes in Mississauga (2021 Census).
In condominium communities the outward appearance of a garage door is often set by the corporation's rules, down to colour and panel style. We check what the board expects before ordering a replacement door, so the new one is approved and matches the row without a second conversation.

A garage door in Mississauga is really three systems working together: the door and its panels, the springs and hardware that carry the weight, and the opener that does the lifting. Our services are organised the same way, so you can find help for the part that is giving trouble.

Real explanations. Every recommendation comes with the reason behind it, in words that make sense to someone who has never opened an opener.
Care in your space. We work around bikes, tools and vehicles carefully, protect what needs protecting, and leave the garage clean.
No pushing. You hear the choices once, clearly. Whether to go ahead, wait or take a different route is yours to decide.

Which fix fits?
IfThe door will not lift and you heard a loud bang from the garage.
ThenTorsion spring replacement.
A snapped spring leaves a visible gap in the coil; the opener should stay off until it is replaced.
IfThe door rises a few centimetres, stops and settles back down.
ThenSpring and opener force check.
Often the spring has lost tension and the opener is protecting itself; balancing the door usually resolves it.
IfThe opener runs and the chain moves but the door stays put.
ThenTrolley and drive gear repair.
The trolley may be disconnected or the drive gear worn; both are common, repairable faults.
IfA bang like a dropped toolbox came from the garage last night.
ThenExtension Spring Replacement.
Choosing the right spring is a matter of weight, not colour.
Curious about something?
Can a tune-up make my noisy door quieter?
Usually, yes, and often dramatically. Most garage door noise comes from dry hinge pins, dry roller bearings and hardware that vibration has loosened, and those three are exactly what a tune-up addresses. Some noise comes from parts that have worn, such as a roller gone out of round or a chain that has stretched, and the technician tells you which sounds were settled by maintenance and which point to a part worth replacing, with a separate quote for that.
What information helps when I book?
The width of the door and whether it is a single or double; what is getting in, whether light, drafts, water, snow or pests, and where along the door; whether the gap is even or worse at one end; the door material; and a photo of the end of the bottom section showing the retainer and seal. Mention if the seal has frozen to the floor or if the door has been reversing before it closes.
What is the red cord for, and is it safe to pull?
It is the emergency release that disconnects the door from the opener so you can move it by hand, for instance during a power outage. It is safe when used with the door closed. Pulling it with the door open is the risk, because an unbalanced door can then drop. Pull straight down, lift the door by its handle, and reconnect afterwards by running the opener or lifting until the trolley clicks back in.
Why does the door jerk or jump at the same spot every time?
A repeatable jolt at one point on the rail is usually a chain problem meeting a sprocket problem: a stiff link or a spread master link passing over worn sprocket teeth, so the chain rides up and drops a tooth. It can also be a burr or a splice plate on the rail where the trolley catches, or a roller on the door hanging up in the track at that height. The technician runs the door by hand first to tell the two apart.
